A Letter from Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche

Very minor tremors today and the family is doing fine. The senior monks, under the guidance of His Eminence are doing Pujas for those who have died and for the protection of the nation.
His Eminence has decided to stay in the country. He felt that in this most crucial and tragic time, his presence was necessary. He also feels that there will not be any further damaging earthquakes.
We visited the Monastery and the monks today in Pharping. The monastery remains structurally sound but has sustained a fair amount of superficial damage. In some areas of the ground floor, the plaster has come off exposing the underlying bricks, and in places the decorative moldings have fallen off. Inside the main Gompa, there are some cracks in the wall thankas and on a few of the statues. Further wall cracks are seen in the torma room, the dining room and classrooms. The rest of the Gompa, monk hostels, guest house, administration building, cafe and clinic are undamaged.
All the monks are safe and have been advised to camp out in an open field for a few days.
His Eminence has advised everyone to do the Guru Rinpoche prayer for protection from calamities [Editor’s note: this is the one we often call “Du Sum Sanjay,” or “The Short Prayer to Guru Rinpoche to remove obstacles.” The text can be found below]. Everyone is asked to do this prayer and remember in their mind the people of Nepal, the monastery and the family.

Prayer to Guru Rinpoche to Remove Obstacles

Translation:
Guru Rinpoche, embodiment of all the Buddhas of the three times, Venerable One of Great Bliss, master of all siddhis, Tamer of Mara, Dudul Dragpo Tzal, who dispels all obstacles, I supplicate you and pray that you grant your blessings! Grant blessings that outer, inner, and secret obstacles be pacified, and my intentions and aims be spontaneously accomplished!
